How to maximise success, drive improvement and meet farm targets in cattle reproduction work
Aimed at the mixed practitioner doing regular farm work, this session will encourage discussions on how to maximise success, drive improvement and meet farm targets in cattle reproduction work. As each farming system is unique, the approach to cattle reproduction must be tailor made to each farm. A clear understanding of the farm’s aims is necessary, as well as an understanding of the factors limiting or encouraging change. Basic principles still apply however; with the importance of the transition period and heifer rearing, data analysis, comprehension of the economic impact of fertility and the cost benefit of intervention being essential principles to incorporate into one’s approach. Communicating effectively with all members of the farming team is also a key driver for success.
- • Recognition of the importance of developing farm targets and protocols
- • The importance of the transition period, heifer rearing and stable nutrition in reproductive success.
- • The importance of communicating with the team!
