The UK farming sector is facing one of its most difficult economic and business climates. Energy costs are soaring driving up the cost of inputs. Labour shortages are further compounding problems. Farmers are proud of their high standards of animal health and welfare and are working to protect them and their animals, but we must recognise a disconnect between political aspirations, consumers' disposable income and market forces. How do we square the circle?
