17 Nov 2022
RVC Clinical Theatre 1

Have I had a surgical complication or was it inevitable? Am I to blame, or did the system let me down? Complications are complex and all surgeons experience them. However, there are positive steps that can be made to minimise and mitigate them. This talk will discuss common complications and personal experiences of a surgical team and how we manage them, reduce them and deal with the stresses when operating.

  • Practical ways to reduce surgical complications
  • Tips to reduce surgeon anxiety when operating
  • Building systems to minimise the likelihood of a complication occurring
Speakers
Jessica Gilby, Head Theatre RVN - Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, Royal Veterinary College
Lynda Rutherford, Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery - Royal Veterinary College
Richard Meeson, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery & Head of Small Animal Orthopaedics - Royal Veterinary College
