Approach to welfare cases
This session aims to help vets in practice understanding how to approach welfare case work in practice.
Collaboration with equine welfare organisations is valuable and under utilised in clinical practice. Understanding what support is available from such organisations is essential and can add another dimension to your approach to cases in which welfare may be a concern for the owner and/or the vet.
The RSPCA call upon vets to provide expert opinion on whether an animal's welfare is being compromised. Being prepared on how to manage such calls is a key skill in clinical practice. Understanding your role as the vet, both in examining clinical disease/injury and assessing welfare of the animal, collecting evidence and acting as a witness where required, is essential.
