Drain away your worries: Chest drains
Management of patients in respiratory distress represent a common emergency in first opinion practice and gaining confidence in some life-saving procedure can be key to success. Placement of chest drain is an emergency procedure in cases of recurrent effusions, pyothorax and pneumothorax. In this session we will have an introduction on indications, equipment required and possible troubleshooting or complication of chest drain placement. We will discuss and practice drain insertion using modified Seldinger technique and trocars, along with evaluation of continuous suction device which can be essential in managing patients with continuous pneumothorax.
