Healthy farm ecosystems: Managing parasites without killing everything else
In recent years there has been a greater appreciation of the wider negative effects of veterinary parasiticides on non-target invertebrates, and how that can affect wider ecosystems. This session looks at many good farming practices which can reduce reliance on parasiticides, while at the same time producing healthy livestock profitably. Viewing the farm as an ecosystem in which grazing livestock are a keystone species can help improve farm resilience, boost biodiversity and shift animal agriculture from having a negative impact to a positive one.
- Understand how a healthy farm ecosystem is critical to climate and business resilience
- Understand the impact of veterinary parasiticides on farm ecology 3.
- Engage with a range of different practices which can reduce our reliance on parasiticides in farm animals.
