Many of our critically ill patients suffer from cardiovascular complications during their natural disease progression. During this VECCS/EVECCS lecture we will dive into some of the key areas for veterinary professionals to be aware of including, but not limited to: fluid overload, pulmonary hypertension, and myocardial dysfunction in the critically ill.
Learning Outcomes
Recognise the predisposing factors and main physical exam and imaging findings associated with volume overload
Employ multiple strategies to manage (and prevent) fluid overload
Acquire and interpret the key point-of-care ultrasound views for assessment of pulmonary hypertension
Outline an initial treatment plan for the management of moderate-severe pulmonary hypertension
Recognise the limitations in our current understanding of myocardial dysfunction in the critically ill
Understand the key steps in optimising tissue perfusion in the critically ill
