This lecture delves into the multimodal approach to pain management in hospitalised patients, emphasising a comprehensive, integrated strategy that combines various therapeutic modalities. The session will cover the essential aspects of pain pathways, current multimodal strategies, and future trends, illustrated through practical case discussions. The lecture will explore how pain signals are transmitted from peripheral receptors to the central nervous system, and how different types of pain are processed and modulated. The lecture will provide an in-depth review of current pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies, and how these can be used in conjunction with one another.
