Considering primary disease is key to treating and preventing recurrence of ear disease. We will discuss atopic dermatitis, food allergy and other common chronic causes of otitis, considering the diagnosis and treatment and how these fit within multimodal therapy. The use of cytology, bacteriology and otoscopy will be reviewed and the difficult subject of drum integrity discussed. A practical and first opinion approach will ensure you can improve your practice.

• Recognise the key features of common primary causes of otitis
• Choose from the wide variety of current products to treat otitis balancing success with good anti-microbial stewardship
