Say goodbye to box-ticking exercises! Transform your farm assurance reviews into proactive stewardship opportunities
Health planning forms a key element of Farm Assurance reviews, however the value of these interactions to both vet and farmer can be highly variable. With a changing legislative and funding landscape across the UK, with the devolved regions taking different approaches to supporting animal health and welfare, health planning forms a core pillar of the new schemes available or in development. It is therefore an opportunity to ensure that farm vets are maximising the value of these interactions with their farmers, delivering high quality advice that translates into meaningful improvements in animal health and welfare. This session will focus on realising the full potential of flock and herd health planning for both farmer and vet, with a particular emphasis on how to incorporate responsible prescribing and antimicrobial stewardship goals.
Delegates will:
- Understand the basic requirements of key Farm Assurance Schemes for herd and flock health plans
- Gain an appreciation for the different approaches to supporting animal health and welfare across the UK and how it applies to health planning
- Apply the existing evidence on vet - farmer communication and behaviour change to health planning
- Recognise the difference between a "tick box exercise" health plan, and a meaningful health plan
- Be able to incorporate specific responsible prescribing and antimicrobial stewardship goals into their health planning
