In this VECCS/EVECCS international ECC stream lecture, we will cover tips for effective client communication in emergency and critical care settings. Effective communication is crucial in these high-stress situations, and protocols will be introduced as a structured approach to delivering difficult news.

Discussing the importance of providing concise and relevant information to clients to ensure understanding and retention. Conversations surrounding realistic prognoses and early discussion of estimates will be highlighted as ways to manage client expectations.

Exploring how displaying empathy, asking questions, and active listening can help to build trust with clients and maintain a positive client-veterinarian relationship, even in high-stress situations.
