In this session, we will use real-world case examples to explore how to initiate and lead effective debriefing conversations that strengthen team dynamics, enhance patient care, and improve client experience. With a focus on human factors, psychological safety, and structured communication, we will examine common but challenging scenarios in ECC. Participants will learn how to apply evidence-based debriefing frameworks , gaining practical tools to facilitate meaningful reflection, learning, and improvement.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define the purpose and benefits of clinical debriefing in emergency and critical care settings, with a focus on human factors and team performance.
  • Identify key elements of effective communication required to initiate and lead a psychologically safe debriefing session.
  • Apply recognised debriefing frameworks to clinical scenarios in ECC.
  • Recognise common challenges and barriers to debriefing, and develop strategies to address them in real-world practice.
