Surgery
A novel approach to anal sacculectomy using a foley catheter assisted technique. This closed technique involves passing the foley catheter into the anal sac through the duct and using the inflated bulb as a template to dissect around. This technique can provide confidence in determining the extend of the anal sac and protection of the surrounding tissues during dissection. The blunt probe technique can also be reviewed as an alternative for some cases. The local anatomy will also be reviewed with particular attention to the position of the anal sphincter muscle, focussing on minimising the risk of incontinence.
