Managing the older cat – complex cases with co-morbidities

20 Nov 2025
RVC Clinical Theatre 2
Diagnostics , Feline Medicine

When was the last time you saw an 18 year old cat? Probably just the other day! Cats are living to older ages, and we are all well aware of the common diseases that come with feline older age. However, as we see more of these older cats, we can’t expect them to have just one single condition and not collect a few more over time. This talk discusses what to do when we have more than one, maybe more than three, conditions in the same senior feline patient, and how we can optimise their quality of life in a pragmatic and practical way.

  • Explain how to balance treatment of common comorbidities such as hyperthyroidism and CKD
  • Discuss how conflicting treatment strategies for different conditions can be overcome
  • Understand a pragmatic approach to prioritising disease management
