Spoonies possess incredible capabilities, yet often face challenges in securing meaningful employment and are discouraged from pursuing their aspirations. This session will explore the obstacles encountered, potential solutions, and ideal future scenarios. We will also discuss recent legislative changes and the evolving interpretation and implementation of the Equality Act, which are prompting veterinary and veterinary nursing training programs to adopt a more inclusive approach.
- Identify and address obstacles: Participants will be able to identify key challenges faced by "spoonies" in securing meaningful employment and explore potential solutions.
- Understand legislative changes: Participants will gain an understanding of recent legislative changes and how the Equality Act is being interpreted and implemented to promote inclusivity in veterinary training.
- Envision future scenarios: The session will encourage participants to envision and discuss ideal future scenarios for "spoonie" careers and wider participation.
