The gendered workplace: Why do we work 'male' when practices are predominantly female?

21 Nov 2025
BVA Career Development
Culture , Practice Management

This session promises to be an interesting discussion about an important topic poorly understood in the veterinary workplace; the interaction between the demographics of the veterinary workforce and how veterinary work and the workplace are designed.

The discussion will focus on a better understanding of why we need to work ‘female’ and simple things we could do to facilitate this.

  • Describe what a gendered workplace is and why this is important in the veterinary context
  • Recognise the value of diverse teams and facilitating non-traditional ways of working
  • Apply strategies to facilitate a more ‘female’ workplace
