Beyond the X-ray: The importance of advanced cross-sectional imaging and endoscopy in respiratory cases – a case-based approach

Radiography is often the first step in investigating respiratory disease, but important pathology can be missed or incompletely characterised, especially in cases of upper respiratory tract and nasal disease . Through a series of real-world cases, this session will demonstrate how CT and endoscopy can enhance diagnostic accuracy, guide treatment decisions, and improve patient outcomes in challenging respiratory presentations.

• Recognise the limitations of radiography in the investigation of respiratory disease.
• Identify cases in which advanced cross-sectional imaging and/or endoscopy is indicated.
• Review how CT and endoscopic findings complement traditional diagnostic workups and the ideal timing to reach for these diagnostics.
• Apply key diagnostic lessons from case-based examples to improve outcomes in everyday practice.
