Foal care in the field: Management of the sick neonate when referral is not an option

This session will cover a comprehensive and logical approach to diagnostics and treatment of sick foals in an ambulatory setting. The session will be predominantly case based and will work through a range of common presentations encountered in general practice such as the foal with colic, the dehydrated foal, and the orphaned or rejected foal.

- •Choose appropriate fluid therapy to administer in the field
- •Recognise the signs of colic in the neonate
- •Manage the rejected or orphaned foal
