Incidence, risk factors and clinical outcomes of rectal prolapse in dogs under primary veterinary care
This session will present the findings of a large retrospective epidemiological study investigating rectal prolapse in dogs under UK primary veterinary care using the VetCompass™ database. The presentation will describe the incidence of rectal prolapse, identify demographic and breed-related risk factors, and examine the clinical presentation, management strategies, and outcomes, including recurrence and euthanasia. As the largest epidemiological study of canine rectal prolapse to date, this work provides clinically relevant evidence to better characterise the affected dog population and improve risk assessment. Attendees will gain practical insights that can support clinical decision-making and potentially improve patient outcomes in both primary and referral practice.
