Cow mobility – from a lame suckler cow to mobility scoring the dairy herd – what’s our first step?

20 Nov 2026
RVC Farm Theatre
Farm , Cattle

Mobility is a key welfare and production trait in cattle, and an important part of a veterinary surgeon's visit to any livestock unit. However, engaging with this topic can be considered a challenge. Whether that is helping a client take steps to deal with a significant challenge, or incremental gains on a high performing unit, reviewing a beef units herd health plan with the herd manager, or mobility scoring a dairy herd, all start with a first step.

We’ll consider options for taking the first step into supporting your client, thinking about what knowledge you might want, but also how you might share it.

  • During this session, we will cover:
  • •Key pieces of knowledge that will help start the conversation
  • •What you may want to know about the animal(s) or farm in question to continue the conversation
  • •Where to turn for the next steps
