19 Nov 2026

Metabolic encephalopathies are an important but often under-recognised cause of neurological dysfunction in horses. This talk will explore the pathophysiological mechanisms that underly these conditions, and will discuss diagnostic approaches, including clinicopathological testing and interpretation of metabolic abnormalities. Practical and evidence-based strategies for stabilisation and treatment will be discussed, using case examples to illustrate a range of challenging presentations.

  • •Differentiate between metabolic encephalopathies
  • •Apply evidence based principles for treatment of metabolic encephalopathies
