Beyond debridement – Rethinking treatment of intrathecal tendon tears
Intrathecal tendon tears are an important cause of persistent lameness associated with the digital flexor tendon sheath and can be challenging to diagnose and manage. This session will review the clinical presentation, imaging findings and surgical assessment of these lesions, with particular focus on tears affecting the deep digital flexor tendon. Current surgical treatment strategies and their limitations will be discussed, alongside emerging approaches aimed at improving tendon repair rather than relying on debridement alone. Attendees will gain a practical overview of diagnosis, treatment decision-making and future potential directions in the management of these challenging injuries.
- - Recognise the typical clinical presentation and imaging features of intrathecal tendon tears within the digital flexor tendon sheath.
- - Understand the role of tenoscopy in confirming lesion type, extent and surgical significance.
- - Compare current surgical treatment options, including debridement, and understand their key limitations.
- - Gain insight into emerging tendon repair strategies aimed at preserving and restoring tendon structure and function.
