RUMA CA&E - Managing the most common clinical conditions presented while practising good antibiotic stewardship in the consult room.
Join RUMA CA&E to explore the next priority areas in companion animal antimicrobial stewardship: Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) and canine pyoderma. Building on RUMA CA&E’s work to support responsible antibiotic use in common clinical presentations, this session will consider the challenges, opportunities and practical support needed to help veterinary teams make confident, consistent decisions in these high-caseload conditions where every day clinical decisions can make a meaningful difference to antimicrobial stewardship. The session will also provide a brief update on existing resources for cat fight wounds/cat bite abscesses in cats, and canine acute diarrhoea in dogs, and invite discussion on how future tools could best support practice teams in delivering good antimicrobial stewardship. Together, this condition-specific work is helping to translate the national antimicrobial use (AMU) reduction targets for dogs and cats into practical, consult-room decision-making, while maintaining high standards of patient care. The session will also include a review of the parasiticide resources and links to research available on the RUMA CA&E website to support good parasiticide stewardship.
