Sarcoids - to ring or not to ring? That is the question!

19 Nov 2026
RVC Equine Theatre 1
Fundamentals of Equine Medicine and Surgery

The session will cover why sarcoids should be considered in the wider oncological context and the need for rational, evidence based approach in the face of often a lot of unhelpful equine folklore. The session will explore why the type, anatomical position, use of the horse and economic constraints might influence potential treatment options outside a referral hospital setting. The lecture will be very picture based with a multitude of cases discussed and rationale to consider with each lesion.

  • 1) What is a sarcoid?
  • 2) How does the type, anatomical position, use of the horse and economic constraints might influence potential treatment options outside a referral hospital setting.
  • 3) How do we communicate the treatment options to owners and explain the risk/benefit balance of those options.
