19 Nov 2026
IDEXX Advanced Diagnostics Theatre
Diagnostic Imaging , Dermatology

Feline pruritus presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges compared to canine dermatology, often requiring a tailored and methodical approach. This session will provide a practical, evidence-based framework for investigating the itchy cat, highlighting key differential diagnoses, common pitfalls, and pragmatic treatment strategies. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing subtle clinical presentations, selecting appropriate diagnostic tests, and optimizing long-term management for improved patient and owner outcomes.

  • Develop a structured approach to the diagnostic work-up of feline pruritus.
  • Differentiate between common causes of pruritus in cats, including parasitic, allergic, infectious, and behavioural conditions.
  • Identify species-specific clinical patterns and how they influence diagnosis.
  • Select appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret findings effectively in feline patients.
  • Formulate practical, multimodal treatment and long-term management plans tailored to the individual cat.
