Leading with compassion: How Fear Free reshapes practice culture

20 Nov 2026
Exhibitor Showcase 2

Fear Free is often framed primarily as a patient handling protocol — useful, but peripheral to practice management. This session makes the case that it is far more than that. At its core, Fear Free is a cultural framework: rooted in behavioural science, built on communication, compassion, and psychological safety, and focused on moving teams from reactive firefighting to proactive, values-led culture. We'll cover the core Fear Free principles, how they extend naturally to how colleagues treat each other, how Fear Free can help create a collaborative and sustainable workplace, and what the evidence shows for staff safety, retention, productivity, and revenue. The session closes by highlighting why these values are not just relevant, but overdue, in British veterinary culture.

  • Fear Free core principles & concepts
  • Beyond just an animal handling protocol — how Fear Free influences leadership, communication, and collaboration
  • Evidence of growth from Fear Free Certified Practices · The human factor — why Fear Free values belong in UK practice culture
