From veterinary visit to departure: Closing the gaps in pet travel

20 Nov 2026
Exhibitor Showcase 1

Safe international pet travel requires more than a health certificate. This session explores how animal health, animal welfare, and compliance connect from the veterinary visit to departure. Dr. Nelva J. Bryant and Tanika Hall will examine the shared responsibilities of veterinarians, pet owners, shippers, cargo brokers, airlines, and government authorities. Through a practical case example, attendees will explore medical fitness for air travel, crate preparation, destination requirements, airline acceptance, and critical communication handoffs. The session introduces Veterinary Air-Travel Medicine™ and demonstrates how FYNDARIA’s destination-timeline app can support coordinated preparation. Attendees will learn to recognize gaps in timing, documentation, and travel readiness that can delay departure or compromise animal welfare.

  • Identify medical considerations that influence an individual animal’s fitness for the planned air journey.
  • Recognize how crate preparation, handling, transportation conditions, and communication gaps can affect animal welfare.
  • Distinguish destination-entry requirements from airline acceptance criteria and use a destination-specific timeline to coordinate preparation and documentation
