Equine Referral Theatre
This lecture will review the indications for muscle biopsy, discuss what information can realistically be gained from histological and immunohistochemical evaluation, and explore how biopsy findings should be interpreted alongside clinical presentation and other diagnostic tests. Current evidence, areas of uncertainty and ongoing debate will be highlighted, with particular emphasis on the practical implications for case management and client communication.
- - Identify appropriate indications for muscle biopsy in horses with poor performance or suspected myopathy.
- - Describe the information that can be obtained from muscle biopsy and recognise the limitations of histopathological interpretation.
- - Critically evaluate the current evidence surrounding common biopsy findings and the controversies associated with equine myopathies.
