What three things? Acute allergic reactions – Fighting the itch by matching drugs, disease & dosh
‘Fighting the itch by matching drugs, disease & dosh’ is a practical lecture focused on rational management of acute allergic reactions of the skin and flares of self-trauma or pruritus in dogs and cats, that require swift intervention. It examines the mechanisms driving those presentations and maps these against available anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy and anti-itch medications, considering their target points, effectiveness, speed of action, available evidence and cost. This will help clinicians to make rational therapeutic decisions, avoid common treatment traps, and save cost. Not all self-trauma indicates itch, and not all itch is histamine- or IL-31–mediated.
- Participants will be better able to:
- ○ Differentiate presentations of acute or flaring self-trauma
- ○ Select drugs rationally
- ○ Avoid common treatment traps
- ○ Avoid unnecessary cost
