London Vet Show Honours Dr Lisa Milella with Charitable Donation

London Vet Show Honours Dr Lisa Milella with Charitable Donation
London, 13/01/2025 – Dr Lisa Milella, one of the UK’s leading veterinary dental specialists, left an indelible mark on veterinary medicine through her compassion, dedication, and pioneering contributions. In her memory, the London Vet Show has made a charitable donation to International Animal Rescue (IAR) and the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

Dr Milella, a former president of the British Veterinary Dental Association, passed away in May 2022, following a long battle with motor neurone disease. Known for her unwavering courage and pioneering work, she was a trustee of International Animal Rescue and a passionate advocate for advancing dental care in animals.

Continuing Dr Milella’s Mission

International Animal Rescue has credited Dr Milella with revolutionising the understanding and importance of oral and dental care for animals, particularly rescued wildlife. Her expertise alleviated the suffering of countless animals worldwide, and she tirelessly trained local veterinarians to continue this vital work.

Even after closing her veterinary dental practice due to her diagnosis, Dr Milella remained an active trustee, providing expert guidance and shaping IAR’s initiatives with her characteristic tenacity and vision.

In her honour, IAR established the Lisa Milella Veterinary Dental Fund, which supports dental treatment for rescued wild animals and training for veterinary professionals.

Supporting Two Causes Close to Dr Milella’s Legacy

The London Vet Show's donation contributes to two causes deeply connected to Dr Milella's life:

International Animal Rescue, to further its mission of providing essential care and advocacy for animals in need, and Motor Neurone Disease Association, dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by the disease and funding vital research.

“Dr Milella’s commitment to alleviating animal suffering and her courage in the face of adversity inspire us all,” said Harry Norman, Group Event Director for the London Vet Show. “Through this donation, we strive to continue Dr Milella’s incredible work and honour her memory.”

A Tribute at the London Vet Show 2024

At the London Vet Show 2024, a tribute to Dr Milella was paid at the end of the ‘Look Back and Wonder: 15 Years of LVS’ session. This panel session, which featured speakers from the show’s first edition in 2009—where Dr Milella had also participated—reflected on the evolution of veterinary practice over the years.

Professor Jill Maddison, Professor of General Practice at the RVC, said: ‘It was a privilege and a pleasure to be part of the’ Look Back and Wonder: 15 Years of LVS’ session, where we reflected on the changes in our areas of clinical and professional practice - expected and unexpected - since the first LVS. Dedicating the session to the memory of Lisa was a small contribution to her legacy - she would have so enjoyed being part of it.’
