Ben Benson AWCF is a UK Master Farrier specialising in remedial and performance farriery, with more than 20 years’ experience working at the highest level of international equestrian sport. He works closely with veterinary surgeons, physiotherapists, coaches and riders to optimise equine soundness and performance through practical, evidence-informed farriery and a collaborative approach to clinical case management. Awarded the Worshipful Company of Farriers’ Master Farrier qualification in 2017, Ben has held senior farriery roles at many of the sport’s most prestigious championships. His appointments include Lead Farrier at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Head Farrier at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and Head Farrier for the FEI European Eventing Championships at Blenheim in 2025. He has also served as Team Farrier to the Swedish Eventing Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the FEI Eventing World Championship in Aachen 2026, as well as the Greek Dressage Team. Ben has provided farriery support at World and European Championships, every UK five-star event, including Badminton, Burghley and Bramham, and is the Official Farrier to Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials. Alongside clinical practice, Ben is a former President of the British Farriers and Blacksmiths Association, an Approved Farrier Trainer and an internationally recognised lecturer. He has worked with the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) delivering practical training for veterinary surgeons and regularly lectures to vets, farriers and allied equestrian professionals throughout the UK and internationally, promoting a collaborative, evidence-led approach to equine locomotion, rehabilitation and performance.
