Bruce graduated from Edinburgh in 1988. After one year in mixed and three years in equine practice he joined what was Blackman & O’Gorman in Newbury in 1992. In 1995 he moved to Bristol University as Resident in Equine Surgery and returned to Newbury and what is now Donnington Grove Veterinary Group in 1998. He was awarded the Certificate of Equine Practice in 1992, Certificate of Equine Surgery in 1995, the Diploma of Equine Soft Tissue Surgery in 1999, ECVS Diploma in 2001 and Fellowship of the RCVS in 2016.
