Founded Petplan with Patsy Bloom in 1976 and over 20 years built it to be the leading Pet Insurer in the UK with a 64% market share. The company was sold to Allianz in 1996. Alongside building the company David and Patsy founded the Petplan Charitable Trust in 1994. The Trust derived then and still does its income from voluntary donations from Petplan Policyholders. In the last 30 years the Trust has made grants in excess of £17 million. £5 million has supported over 350 animal welfare charities and £12 million in Veterinary Clinical Studies Grants.
