Emily is a Lecturer in Professional Skills at the University of Surrey. A graduate of the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) with Honours, Emily received the Vial De St Bel Silver Medal in 2010.
Emily's career in clinical practice spans over a decade, during which she served as Head Vet in various branches, including a 24-hour emergency hospital. Her clinical experience includes out-of-hours practice in Worksop and Hertfordshire, and she has held the position of Senior Vet and mentor in a hospital in Hampshire.
She holds a postgraduate qualification in ophthalmology and has been recognized for her contributions to educational innovation with the Lewis Elton Award by the Surrey Institute of Education. Emily also completed a postgraduate certificate in Higher Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Currently, Emily is pursuing a master's degree in Higher and Professional Education. At the University of Surrey, she is responsible for teaching communication, veterinary legislation, practice management, clinical governance, and employability for the Veterinary Medicine and Science (BVMSci) degree program.
Emily leads the Athena Swan initiative within the vet school, promoting gender equality, and has conducted research into the effects of cultural unconscious bias on confidence in consultations and student perceptions of professional behaviours witnessed during placements.
