Lou qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in 2009 and has since built a broad and dynamic career across both first-opinion practice and referral hospital settings. She holds additional certifications in anaesthesia and emergency and critical care (ECC), reflecting her strong clinical focus and commitment to advancing patient care.
Lou currently serves as Clinical Lead RVN at Wendover Heights Vets, a busy primary care practice in Buckinghamshire, where she plays a key role in leading clinical standards and supporting her team. Alongside her practice work, she contributes to the wider profession through her role with RCVS Knowledge, delivering education on Quality Improvement and Evidence-Based Veterinary Nursing (EBVN).
Her contributions have been widely recognised. Lou was awarded the RCVS Inspiration Award in 2019 and has twice been named an RCVS Knowledge Champion, in recognition of her clinical audits that have driven measurable improvements in anaesthesia and postoperative patient outcomes. She is currently furthering her expertise by undertaking the CertAVN in Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC).
A passionate advocate for community, collaboration, and mentorship, Lou is the founder of “VN Spark”, which provides friendly and informal peer-to-peer learning events within the veterinary nursing profession. She also shares insights and resources through her social media platform, @LouTheVetNurse, where she engages with the veterinary nursing community.
