Rachel qualified from Edinburgh in 1993 and worked in mixed practice for 7 years, gaining her Certificate in Cattle Health and Production in 1998, before focusing solely on farm animals. She joined Synergy Farm Health at its inception in 2009, which has now grown to a 60 vet independent farm animal practice in the south west of England. In 2022 she took on the research arm of the practice which concentrates on answering questions of clinical relevance to both vets and farm clients. The clinical research programme includes topics such as innovative diagnostics, clinical approaches to infectious disease, nutrition, mastitis, lameness and youngstock health. Rachel has a particular interest in sustainability and the responsible use of medicines. She is a Director of XLVets, chairs the AHDB Medicine Hub Industry Liaison Group and represents the Cattle Sector on the RUMA Targets Task Force. She is also a member of Vet Salus and contributes to the Vet Sustain Food and Farming Working Group.
