Sara Higgins
Veterinary Advisor,
Veterinary Exotic Notifiable Diseases Unit (VENDU)
After graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2008 and volunteering for a summer at the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad in Morocco, I started my professional career in mixed practice in Northern Ireland. On relocation to Australia and while working as an equine vet, I then developed a strong interest in internal medicine. I completed a 3-year large animal American College of Veterinary Internal medicine residency in Canada and attained diplomat status and a master’s in veterinary science. Following an equine internal medicine fellowship in the United States and other clinical roles, I joined the Animal Plant Health Agency in 2019, where I am now a veterinary advisor in the veterinary exotics notifiable disease unit.
