Shreya Patel
BA (Cantab),
VETERINARY STUDENT,
University of Cambridge, Worldwide Veterinary Service
Shreya is a final-year veterinary student at the University of Cambridge and, alongside Rudi Bruijn-Yard and Francesca Haldane, recipient of the inaugural Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) Global Challenge Award. Their winning project, developed to address PPR in smallholder small ruminant systems in Uganda, received up to £100,000 in funding. The team is currently working alongside the WVS, Uganda’s Ministry for Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries (MAAIF), and Makerere University to implement the project.
Alongside her studies, Shreya has worked in climate advocacy for the past five years. She volunteers with ClimaTalk, a youth-led international NGO working to demystify climate policy for young people and has attended COP29 (Azerbaijan, 2024) and SB64 (Bonn, 2026) as part of their delegation in the capacity of Partnerships Lead, whilst also tracking international food systems negotiations. She sits on the core team of the World Veterinary Environmental Alliance (WVEA), a growing NGO championing climate advocacy within the veterinary profession, and works part-time with Cambridge Zero (University of Cambridge) on student-staff relations regarding environmental sustainability.
